Story - No Starlight

Dressed in a white coat hat and shoes, he could have been mistaken for a doctor. His patients, that of the hooked drawn and quartered kind. They were kept under conditions that could have been classed as inhuman pneumonia. Pink, hairy and dismembered, the pieces hung silently in the cold of a walk in deep freeze.

The store was a hive by day, deaf and dumb by night. Two night shift workers stocked and displayed shelves with tomorrow's shopping lists, the white coat presided over all proceedings.

Night shifters had become a rarity for this particular store. White coat did the hiring and firing. Management never questioned the latest new faces. Stocks were ready and laid to rest for the morning activities, sales were up and customers were happy.

Somewhere behind the freezers large suction door, all pathways led to an endless winter. A dark sky above void of starlight. Only the white coat offered the light that guided many to their final symptoms. He was sure he had the cure.
